What’s Up Doc?

When Michael Moore’s film “Fahrenheit 9/11” debuted at Cannes Film Festival in 2004, it received a 20-minute standing ovation. 20-MINUTES!?

Quentin Tarantino – the president of the jury at Cannes that gave “Fahrenheit 9/11” the Palme d’Or – said to Moore at the dinner afterwards, “I’ve got to tell you what your film really did for me. I’ve never voted in my life, in fact, I’ve never even registered to vote — but the first thing I’m going to do when I get back to L.A. is register to vote.”

Now maybe Quentin Tarantino’s vote isn’t exactly super motivating. Did you see The Hateful Eight? But c’mon, the man never voted. Wasn’t registered. And all because of a film, he took a pretty important step and got involved in our civic process. For better or worse. I know I’m beating a dead horse here, but did you see The Hateful Eight? It was terrible.

IPW Anaheim thumbnailA great film can compel. It can inspire. It has the power to really move people. And that’s the reason we got into this business. Now in trying to live up to that hype-laden opener, we recently had the opportunity to partner with one of our longest tenured clients, Visit Denver, and create a documentary style, travel show for the annual IPW Conference this past May.

Taking a page from the master of this type of content himself, Anthony Bourdain, we set out to make a show that sells Denver without selling Denver. We wanted to focus on some of the amazing people, places and things that make the Mile High City what it is. And to pull that off? Oh, no big deal, just one awesome host, two days, three cameras, three really cool locals, nine locations, an 18 person crew and one big ass van. I’ve gotta say, I’m really proud of what we made here, and that doesn’t happen that often. Damn moody, creative types.

So, there you have it, our first foray into the travel show arena. Not too bad, huh? Is it standing ovation worthy? I’ll let you decide that. But, I’m thinking we might have inspired (more than) a few people to make the trek here to Denver and see what we’re all about.
